More playing.

The Echolink seems to running OK. I have changed the Internet feed. It was running of a range extender but that was messing with my house WIFI. I am now sharing the Internet from my weather and APRS laptop. It has been fine all day but I will monitor it to make sure it doesn't time out or go to sleep. I have also adjust the aerial and made some slight audio adjustments which seem to have improved things. Ant comments would be most appreciated.

Echolink Changes

You may have noticed the Echolink callsign has changed. This is due to the link now being located at my QTH. John G4OTJ has hosted this for many years and I would like to thank him for his work over these years. At present it is working on an indoor beam so the signal may not be as good as it could. I will hopefully be able to mount this outside. In the meantime please let me know of any problems you have.

A digital UB?

There seems to be some interest in a DMR repeater for the Bath area. As the repeater keeper I have no desire to stand in the was of developments that are driven by the users. I do not have the funds to go and buy an of the shelf unit and pay for the monthly costs such as internet access. However, if enough people get together than hopefully all these things can be resolved. However, one thing I do want to remain is, the given the current availability of very cheap handhelds, is the ability for all radio amateurs to have access to a repeater. We are in interesting times and the future is looking interesting.

Echolink. Use but please don't abuse

As you know UB is linked to the Internet via Echolink enabling users in poor locations to achieve world wide communications. However, like all systems it must be used with some consideration.

Below is a list of what happened to GB3FH/GB3UB a few nights ago. I have spoken on air to the gent and can see their reasoning behind it. That is to increase traffic, however I have pointed out the problems this can cause to other users with regard to indents etc.To prevent a similar thing happening there is now a 5minute time-out on inactive links. So morn over, please continue to use and enjoy the repeaters that are provided by individuals/groups out of their own pockets for your use, and if you use one on a regular bases consider a contribution. Echolink

Well thanks to John the Echolink is back working, and much better than ever. It has a new radio and interface which added to the use of CTCSS has given us a very nice link. Please feel to give it a go as we would like some feedback on how it is working.
There is a full list of  DTMF commands at http://www.echolink.org/Help/dtmf_functions.htm
but some basic ones are-

01 connect to random repeater
08 checks what station is connected
# disconnects station
node number connects to that station

Echolink

The Echolink has been off for a while. I have contacted the link keeper and it seems the rig has failed. Now I am feeling better I hope the link can be back on as soon as possible. Sorry to those of you who may have wished to use it.
